Showers
Aside from the look of your shower, there are many other factors you should consider before you decide to buy a new one. Even if you don’t have the most advanced grasp of plumbing, you should understand the difference between an electric shower and one that feeds directly from your plumbing system (a mixer shower).
Mixer Showers
Mixer showers tend to feature in older houses. While the electric shower is fast replacing the mixer shower, the mixer shower still provides a pleasurable showering experience. These types of showers require a large amount of pressure. The amount of pressure available to your shower pump is dependent on the type of heating system you have. If you lack the amount of pressure required to pump enough water through your shower head, you will have to install a pump (and it’s better to let a professional plumber deal with this), or you could find yourself showering beneath a thin trickle of water.
Electric Showers
A very effective piece of equipment, electric showers are not dependent on your plumbing system for pressure and heat. The water is heated by a heating element inside the shower itself, which saves time having to wait for your plumbing to heat up some water for a shower. The pressure is dealt with by the shower, ensuring a hot, powerful and immediate stream of water every time you switch it on. These are ideal for people who cannot afford to wait for a shower while the plumbing system heats up enough water for you to have a shower, the way mixer showers work.
It is fair to say that the electric shower is fast becoming the more popular of the two, and there are few things the mixer shower can do that the electric shower cannot do equally as well or better. But the mixer shower is a more traditional method of showering, and still provides a great showering experience.
